"The Buddha spoke: 'Often, always unclean, ultimately putrid: look, Nanda, at this physical heap you call the body. Through contemplation of that which is foul, you develop your mind of awareness, making it one-pointed, ultimately whole and free.' Considering things thus, not tiring, for many a day and many a night, I, Nanda, with my own discernment analyzing this body, saw the truth of what was spoken. And as I examined it, this body, as it actually is, was seen within and without. Then was I disenchanted with my old fascination with the body; mindful, detached, calmed was I. Unbound."

"All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him."

"All things appear and disappear because of the concurrence of causes and conditions. Nothing ever exists entirely alone; everything is in relation to everything else."

Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.

"Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment."

"Decay is inherent in all compounded things. Strive on with diligence."

"However many holy words you read,However many you speak,What good will they do you if you do not act on upon them?"

"Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without."

--"How, dear sir, did you cross the flood?" "By not halting friend, and by not straining I crossed the flood." "But how is it, dear sir, that by not halting and by not straining you crossed the flood?" "When I came to a standstill, friend, then I sank; but when I struggled, then I got swept away. It is in this way, friend, that by not halting and by not straining I crossed the flood." -Buddha--

"Cherish all living beings with a boundless heart, radiating kindness over the entire world."
